Severe pain in ankle?

I have just been diagnosed as having Gout in my ankle . I've had pain for months and this is the answer to it . I've been given tablets called allopurinol , the doc said that the pain might get worse as the tablets start to kick in . This is the 3 rd day and i am in agony - how much longer before i feel a bit less pain ?
